Easy Vodka Sunrise cocktail recipe, 3 ingredients.

There’s nothing quite like the beautiful colors of a sunrise to kickstart your day (or yearn for more sleep, depending on who you’re talking to).

Today, we’re putting a unique twist on the classic tequila sunrise cocktail with our easy and refreshing Vodka Sunsrise Cocktail. This recipe is not just a gorgeous drink to look at because of its beautiful ombre effect, but also delicious with just the right amount of alcohol.

Why Choose Vodka Sunrise?

While the original tequila sunrise cocktail is popular, this is a great alternative. Our vodka sunrise drink recipe offers a more fresh and fruity flavor profile that’s perfect for warm days, making it the perfect summer cocktail.

With the addition of vodka, this cocktail combines strong fruity flavors with a beautiful gradient effect. The bottom of the drink is red, and fades into pink before turning a bright orange, reminiscent of a sunrise.

The reason I personally love making it is because it is such an easy cocktail to make, which makes it the perfect drink to impress your friends with if planning a brunch or bridal shower. And it pairs well with our Sunday brunch Shrimp and Grits.

Before we learn how to make a Vodka Sunrise lets answer a few frequently asked questions.

FAQs Sunrise Cocktails

Yes, you can make a tequila sunrise with vodka. It would just be called a vodka sunrise, instead. That’s what I’ll be sharing today.

A vodka sunrise includes 3 main ingredients, vodka, orange juice and grenadine syrup. You can also add ice and garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry.

Here’s a list of what you’ll need to make the best vodka sunrise recipe. Remember you can always print out the full instructions at the end of this post.

  • Vodka– choose your favorite vodka. I went with a Red Berry flavored one for the added berry flavors. It’s fruity but don’t let that fool you, it will sneak up on you.
  • Orange juice– fresh orange juice or bottled is fine. I prefer pulp free.
  • Grenadine syrup– this is what will create the ombre efffect.
  • Ice cubes– if you have round ice, be fancy and use it.
  • Orange slices– This is optional. I used orange wedges for garnish.

  • Prepare Your Glass: Start by filling a tall glass or highball glass with ice.
  • Mixing the Cocktail: To achieve the gorgeous layered cocktail effect, begin by pouring your vodka and orange juice over ice. Mix well.
  • The Sunrise Effect: To create that beautiful sunrise effect, we have to add the red layer. Gently pour a splash of red grenadine syrup down the side of the glass. Because of its density it will settle at the bottom of the glass, creating a pinkish hue that mimics the colors of a sunrise.
  • Garnish and Serve: Garnish your cocktail with a fresh orange slice or wedge. You could even add a cherry.

Tips for the Perfect Vodka Sunrise

  • If you poured the grenadine syrup too fast and it all settled at the bottom too quickly, with no gradient effect, GENTLY stir the bottom with a small spoon or straw. Not too much, just a LITTLE, to make the ombre effect more pronounced.
  • If you’re looking for a non-alcoholic alternative, simply omit the vodka and add a lemon soda for a tangy cocktail.

Whether you’re hosting a brunch or looking for a delicious cocktail to enjoy on a hot summer day, this Vodka Sunrise Cocktail is the perfect recipe for you. With simple ingredients and easy preparation, this cocktail is sure to impress your guests and become a favorite in no time.
